Sunday School

Youth Preschool through 6th grade gather on Sundays at 9:15 during the school year. In their classrooms, they learn Bible stories, play games, create art, and build a strong foundation on God’s Holy Word.

Confirmation

Youth in 7th and 8th grade meet at 8:30 on Sundays during the school year. Pastor Dick Ewing guides confirmands in a deep study of Luther’s Small Catechism to help them grow in their walk with Christ and prepare them for their profession of faith. The confirmands also perform acts of service by assisting in worship.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild meets monthly on the 2nd Friday at 1:30 in the church basement for Bible Study and fellowship.
Altar Guild members clean and care for altar clothes and brass items in the sanctuary.

Members are responsible for dressing the altar in proper colors according to the liturgical calendar and preparing the Lord’s Supper for distribution.

Stavanger Lutheran Church Women

Stavanger Lutheran Church Women’s group meets monthly on the first Wednesday at 1:30 in the church basement for Bible Study, followed by a ministry meeting and fellowship.

SLCW hosts the annual pork chop dinner, adopts needy families during the Holidays, provides service for funerals and events, gifts Bibles to Sunday School children, manages the Cradle Roll, and donates to local charities.

Pioneers

Stavanger Pioneers meet monthly at Noon on the 4th Wednesday in the church basement for a potluck-style lunch and a scheduled program. Recent programs included music, mission trip reviews, a coin collector, our fun annual antique roadshow, and even a magic show. Originally organized for our senior members, all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Greeters

Greeters welcome all to Worship with a smile, encourage visitors to sign the guest book, and provide assistance with seating as needed.

Lay Readers read scriptures

Music and Worship

Lay Readers share God’s Word during Worship Service, reading the First and Second Lessons, and a selected Psalm based on the Lutheran liturgical calendar.

Pastoral Care Continues at Stavanger Lutheran Church

Pastoral Care Circle

Members of the Care Circle will call and visit those in need of Christian support who are in retirement homes, hospitals, or are homebound. They will read scriptures, pray, serve communion, and provide fellowship for those who can no longer attend worship services regularly. Gary Erickson leads the Care Circle.  

Outreach

Empowered to Imitate Him

Packs for Pals

provides meals over the weekends for local students experiencing food instability.

Food Pantry Outreach

collects and distributes goods for the local food pantries. 

Christmas Families Outreach

sponsors local families with young children in order to spread the joy of the season.

Stavanger Mission Fund

provides monetary donations to local benevolences. Our mission goal for the year is $21,000. $2500 as a scholarship for a seminary student, 40% to Cup of Cold Water Ministries, and 60% to local benevolences.
